FAQs

What is the difference between MuralShield Matte and MuralShield Original?

MuralShield Original dries to a glossy finish, while MuralShield Matte dries to a true matte finish. The matte version was chosen for this fresco so it would maintain the artwork's natural plaster aesthetic without altering its original look.

Why does a fresco mural need a protective coating?

Soon after completion, the mural showed early signs of surface wear and color transfer. MuralShield Matte acts as a fixative and protective coating, shielding the artwork from dust, moisture, and daily exposure so it does not deteriorate over time.

How is MuralShield Matte applied to a mural?

For this project the coating was applied with a High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) sprayer for quick, accurate transfer with no overspray. The mosaic tile border was protected separately with MuralShield Original in a gloss finish to highlight its appearance.
